Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban will tie the knot this weekend at St Patrick's estate in Manly, the Daily has been told.
A well-placed source, who did not wish to be named, confirmed yesterday that the Hollywood actress and her country music star fiance would be getting hitched at the Gothic-style building on Sunday. Rumours that Manly would be the location for this year's most talked about wedding emerged over the weekend and have caused a bit of a stir on the northern beaches.
Resident Jacqui Mordaunt, whose apartment overlooks Manly beach and takes in views of St Patrick's estate, came home yesterday to find a huge marquee being erected in front of the historic building.
She whipped out her binoculars and watched work on the marquee from her bedroom window before contacting the Daily with the latest developments.
``I reckon that (the wedding) is what it's for,'' Ms Mordaunt said. ``It's been a hive of activity.
``I have seen them put marquees up there before but never one that big.
``It's so exciting. I might invite some friends over on Sunday and have a party.''
Despite the strengthening rumours a spokeswoman from the International College of Management, which is housed in the grounds of St Pat's, played down the sound of Kidman wedding bells. ``It's not true,'' she said. ``We always have weddings and functions here.''
Manly Mayor Peter Macdonald said if Kidman and Urban did host their wedding at St Pat's it would be like royalty coming to Manly.
``My invitation must be in the mail,'' he said.
``I have not heard anything official but it's not something that the council would necessarily be told about.
``The local priest would have to make the necessary arrangement in terms of crowd control.
``It's exciting for the community, it's almost like having royalty.
``I wish them well.''
General manager Henry Wong said the council wished Kidman and Urban ``all the best'' for their special day.
``Now we'll have to clean up The Corso,'' he joked.
Urban's family and Kidman's two adopted children from her 10-year marriage to Tom Cruise, Isabella, 13, and Connor, 11, are expected to arrive in Sydney in the next few days.
Other wedding guests tipped to attend are actors Russell Crowe, Naomi Watts and Hugh Jackman, director Baz Luhrmann and News Corporation chairman Rupert Murdoch. As reported in the Daily yesterday, rumours were circulating that the Sebel Manly Beach had taken a large number of bookings overnight which observers connected to the wedding.
Calls to Kidman's publicist, Wendy Day, were not returned.
