Subject: Invitation to exhibition
The Australian Embassy in conjunction with the Hungarian Permanent
Representation is hosting an exhibition of paintings by the renowned
Sydney
based Australian /Hungarian artist Judy Cassab. The exhibition is being
held as part of a number of activities associated with Hungary week (15 to
26 March) to mark the entry of Hungary into the EU.
Austrian-born and of Hungarian parents, Judy Cassab emigrated to
Australia
in 1951 after surviving the horrors of World War II. Judy Cassab has had
an
exceptionally interesting life including escaping persecution in
Hungary
during WWII (she has published her diaries). In Australia, she found a
rich
source of inspiration in both the land and its peoples. She quickly
gained
a reputation for her distinctive expressionist technique and abilities as
a
portraitist, and over her long career has won many major art prizes
and
awards, amongst which have included the prestigious Archibald Prize
(1961
and 1968) and the Rubinstein Portrait Prize (1964 and 1965).
This exhibition presents a cross-section of Judy Cassab's work.
The Judy Cassab exhibition is on show in the foyer of the Europen
Commission Charlemagne Building, (rue de la Loi, 170-Brussel-Belgium) on Thursday 25 March from 14.30 to 16.00.
