Not eligible to withdraw Australian superannuation under DASP guidelines
For your information
Dear Ms
Thank you for your recent email about your eligibility for the departing Australia superannuation payment (DASP).
This guidance is general in nature and is not binding on the Commissioner.
Only temporary residents who held an eligible temporary resident visa which has expired or been cancelled and who have permanently departed Australia, may withdraw their superannuation benefits.
Because New Zealand and Australian citizens may still have retiring rights in Australia, regardless of whether or not they exercise that right, they are not eligible for a DASP, even if they held an eligible temporary resident visa.
The above guidelines also apply to those who continue to retain dual citizenship with Australia or New Zealand whilst residing in other countries and also those who have held permanent residency status in either country.
Contributions held by the Australian superannuation fund can only be rolled over (transferred) to another complying Australian fund. Contributions cannot be transferred to a non-complying overseas entity.
If you wish to withdraw your Australian superannuation benefits, you will need to contact your superannuation fund to ascertain if you meet a condition of release under our eligibility requirements and your superannuation fund’s rules.
Our eligibility requirements are:
reaching age 65
retirement after reaching the minimum preservation age (usually 55)
death of the member
permanent incapacity, or
the amount of your superannuation is less than $200 and you no longer work for the employer who made contributions to that fund on your behalf.
Please direct any further enquiries relative to the withdrawal of your Australian benefits to your superannuation fund.
