la traduction de stage POUR UN ETUDIANT c'est internship (ca c sur!)(pour un australien en tout cas).
Non, non, definitely not! I assure you, if you said you were doing an 'Internship' to any and all Aussies I know, they would ALL ask you what kind of a Doctor you were going to be!
The only people I know who might understand you really meant Work Experience would be members of Alliance Francaise or others who could 'read between the lines' if they'd worked in Europe and understood the mis-use of 'internship'.
So Ryval and others are exactly correct, and the 'training period' definition given is also correct - though in most cases when we hear 'training period' we think of it in the way of a trainee who is learning for several months 'on the job' , and will be staying permanently with that company, rather than somebody who's staying just for a while.
Technically, yes 'Work Experience' does usually work out at 'on the job' work of 2 - 4 weeks duration, but that's mainly because at undergraduate level we don't seem to have any other format/length.
It's only some Uni students I know of who have had 3-4 months of it, and in their case it was called by the same name too - all 'Work Experience' or 'Summer Work'.
I don't know any Aussie who's done work experience for free - that's not what sets it apart from 'training period', but rather the
purpose (Aussies usually like to get paid for anything they do - secondary school students I remember used to get paid a token $10 per day and they probably still get paid 'chicken feed' as we say)
So, in summary, if you always use the word 'Work Experience' , except in the medical field, you will never be misunderstood.
Probably best to use it on your CVs too, because if I was an employer and I saw all these 3 month 'training periods' listed, I might actually think you'd been on 3 month working probation/tests (as many employees are over here) and that the employer had decided not to keep you at the end of it, or couldn't afford you or something.
Hope this helps.
