Pas bon en ce moment de visiter l'australie avec tous ces cyclones

Pilbara region are bracing for the full fury of category four tropical cyclone Glenda.

Glenda is expected to cross the coast bearing destructive wind gusts of more than 275kph on Thursday morning, somewhere between the massive mining, oil and gas shipping ports of Dampier and Port Hedland.

Bureau of meteorology senior forecaster Andrew Burton said the cyclone, 335km north of Port Hedland and 435km north northeast of Karratha, was travelling down the coast at 12kph.

Glenda's approach comes just nine days after category five Larry devastated parts of north Queensland, many of which have been declared disaster areas.

Although Glenda has weakened slightly from a five to a four, authorities are still warning of very destructive winds.

"We are saying it is expected to cross the Pilbara coast tomorrow morning and anywhere from Port Hedland to Exmouth was still at risk," Mr Burton said.

"It may affect us (in Perth) in someway, but it is unlikely at this stage to have a direct hit on Perth," he said.

He said residents of the central and west Pilbara coast were warned of the risk of very destructive winds with gusts exceeding 275kph tomorrow as the "very dangerous cyclone" neared the coast.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) urged people in or near coastal communities between De Grey and Mardie including Port Hedland, South Hedland, Whim Creek, Point Samson, Wickham, Roebourne, Karratha and Dampier to prepare for Glenda.

FESA personnel headed for the Pilbara as operations area manager Peter Cameron urged communities to gather emergency supplies, food and water and find somewhere safe to shelter.

"Consider your personal circumstances and what your family will do in the event of heavy rain, flooding or other unexpected activity," Mr Cameron said.

Global mining giant Rio Tinto has halted its massive iron ore shipping operations in the Pilbara ahead of Glenda, the sixth cyclone of the WA season.

"At this stage we are in full tie down at the ports which means basically we have sent all our ships out to sea and stopped all operations at the port," a Rio spokeswoman said.

"We are still continuing to operate mines inland and there is some rail activity there."

Oil and gas giant Woodside is continuing production offshore and onshore except at the Cossack Pioneer and Ocean Legend facilities which have sailed out of the path of the cyclone.

"Ship loading operations at Karratha will resume when sea and weather conditions permit," a Woodside spokeswoman said.

Flooding warnings are also current for the Gascoyne district, Pilbara coastal rivers, the Ashburton River catchment and the Fortescue River catchment
