Pour moi, I would say that during his life he was seen as nothing but a bandit, but the more time goes by (and the more money is made out of Tourism about him) the more like Robin des Bois he becomes!

But also as time goes by, more people are researching his life, reading the true accounts, and often discovering that perhaps, in the beginning, he wasn't so guilty, and it was injustice which made him angry and led to his life of crime. After reading one such book, I also feel quite a lot of sympathy for his early years.....but not the later ones.

Hope this helps!

What goes on, Yellow? First you ask about Gog and Magog; Kate goes through a lot of trouble to answer your question and next thing you come up with a would be troublesome question about Ned Kelly. The least you could do would be to acknowledge the answer to your first question before jumping on another subject. Trying to stir the possum, are you?

salut :D

Good work Ozman!

I didn't realize there were TWO Ned Kelly movies made almost at the same time.
You might like to know that the Australian one with Heath Ledger was filmed at little Clunes, the gold town next to Creswick (20 kms from here).
I didn't go to watch the filming but huge crowds of people did (especially to see Heath Ledger).
I was there on the last day as they started to dismantle the facades of all the old buildings they had put in front of the real old buildings. It all looked quite real.
Somebody in my family might still have some photos of the scene...I'll have a look.

Since it was ages ago (maybe 2 years), many people have almost forgotten about the filming taking place so close by, and since the movie wasn't a huge success among Australians, I don't think there is a big interest in the DVD.

Vida et Fred de L'alliance Francaise went to see it, and they (along with many Australians) think the story was changed a bit too much in the movie, and that it was a bit 'too Australian' (too many animals popping up, birds, lizards, etc) but that they were sure people outside Australia would be much more interested in it...'more designed for tourists' I think was their opinion of the movie.

Oui, one of the Tourist Attractions at Beechworth is just to see the historic stone Gaol where Ned Kelly was kept...very temporarily I believe, just till they could take him to the one in Melbourne.

It's quite a 'Ned Kelly' kind of town, and its main claim to fame (apart from the yummy Bakery that's said to be Victoria's richest, bringing in millions....instead of ginger bread men they have what look like an attempt to make little 'Ned Kelly Men'!) even though he only 'just passed through'

Glenrowan though has Ned monuments & stuff all over the place. No wonder it's practically called "Kellyville" now.

The death mask of Ned Kelly and his place of execution by hanging may be viewed, by those interested, at the Old Melbourne Goal.

New website puts Ballarat, Hepburn on film industry map
June 1, 2004.
A new website aimed at building on Ballarat and Hepburn’s rapidly growing reputation as a film-making location was launched during the St Kilda film festival recently.
Productions such as Ned Kelly, Love’s Brother, Salem’s Lot, Ponderosa and Mad Max have all been filmed in this region.
Senator Judith Troeth, who launched the website, said the region was ‘endowed with unique, adaptable settings, with ready access to major metro services such as transport, production facilities and media outlets’.
Ballarat Mayor David Vendy said there were few places that offered the diversity of the Ballarat and Hepburn regions.
Each location creates its own language of atmosphere and light and finding the right location is like finding the right actor - a lot depends on it. “

The new website address is www.filmballarathepburn.com.au

(there are hundreds of pics of the region & locations, etc as well in this great gallery....

Congratulation Kate

You have found a very very good website. :D

I like very well the informations about Creswick.

It's pitty, they didn't write few words about the most important FDU Member: You.

All this pictures remind me the beautiful landscape of Ballarat ( I've recognized very well the picture of the railway station :D )

Now, I just must find the videos and films to discover a new time this nice country.

Moi j'aime bien Ned kelly.

tof
