Il existe depuis 2 mois environ la version française en DVD sous le nom Le chemin de la liberté
That's great news - I was hoping the DVD would be released in several languages, at least outside Australia (I didn't notice any French subtitle option on ours here).
A very moving film, especially as my husband studied the book during his PhD and I already knew the story. He also went to the premiere of the movie here, with many aboriginal women from our local community (he worked with one local aboriginal girl). Most of these women cried so much, and some had to leave the cinema before the movie finished, they were so emotional.
There was also a very good documentary about the making of the film (parts of which I think are on the DVD)
Another Aboriginal movie that comes to mind when thinking of past history between Aboriginals and whites in Australia: "The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith". It could be hard to find as it is over 20 years old. Quite sad too, and very violent, about the time when Aborigines were used in the outback as Police, against their own people.
There's also "We of the Never Never" - also rather old, but about whites settlers and Aboriginals in the outback (easier to find the book, peut etre)
