I was just thinking we haven't had any official FDU Melbourne get-together for a while and it must be time to do something......

I had an idea for something completely different this time, rather than a dinner where often you can't move around and meet lots of people too well.
Since I've just played in a petanque tournament (and lost  ) and own boules now, I wonder if anybody is interested in getting together maybe in the city in a park by the Yarra on 19 or 20 Mars for a bit of a game, since I have those dates free?
Nothing serious - just a fun and casual get together and maybe afternoon tea - maybe followed by a few drinks at a pub or something if people want.

If you're interested, leave a message or drop me an email or something, and if enough people like the idea, I'll start organising.

Some more details:
Venue: Birrarung Marr Park (par la Yarra, juste derriere de Federation Square).
Meeting point: opposite a large brown building called "Artplay" (which is just along a bit from the playground, almost directly opposite the Rowing Clubs which are on the other side of the river)

Last year when I first saw Melbourne's newest park, I wondered why there's no grass as our normal parks have, and how useful so much open expanse of flat gravel could be........and now I see what good use we could put it to!
Je suis alle au Melbourne hier and I checked for possible spots for us to 'take over'.....it looks even better than I hoped - and in the spot I chose, there are even heaps of picnic benches right beside the river. :D

And if anybody else has a set of boules they can bring along on the day, we could have 2 games playing at once.

When it gets closer to the date, we can decide a few more details together, like where we go after petanque & afternoon tea (I recommend the pub on the other side of Federation Square - 1 block further up Flinders Street away from the station - I don't know its name but it's supposed to be Melbourne's oldest pub. It looks pretty typical, and cheaper than the drinking places at Fed Square.)

I might not be able to join in the outing but I wanted to point out that the pub in question is called Young and Jackson and that there is there a French connection. Read on: http://www.australianbeers.com/pubs/chloe/chloe.htm

Merci Jean-Marie, c'est interessant.......but not the one I had in mind - I'm thinking of the one further up Flinders St past Federation Square (google tells me it's the 1850 pub 'Duke of Wellington', currently under threat of being half demolished by developers).

By the way, if anybody else can't make it to the game but would still like to join us for drinks afterwards, you're most welcome (pub rendezvous time would probably be 5.00 or 5.30 pm)

Sujet du message :  some final petanque arrangements

Ok, all arrangements are now in place for the petanque next dimanche.

Commencement: 1.45 a Birrarung Marr (will set up les equips et commence de jouer a 1400)

On peut jouer 3 'jeux' au meme temps - Christelle is bringing an extra set of boules & so is Jacquouille.

Apres: Duke of Wellington pub, Flinders St, just up past Federation Square.
Time: commencement entre 5 ou 5.30 pm.
If some not playing would still like to join us for drinks & meet us there, if you like, send me a MP & I'll send you back my mobile phone number so you can call and check on the day which of the 2 times we'll actually be at the pub.

See you all there!

C'etait un peu difficile pour voir qui a gagne le competition (because we mixed the teams up for some games) but from the scoreboard les gagnerss etait:
Nolwenn & Guillaume
et aussi Aussietomtom

Salut a tous,

Ciao
Gourmand-Nicolas
