Salut tlm, Well, it's on again - probably the last 'official' France Downunder Melbourne soiree for the year , since December seems usually too busy for people with other events and November is almost booked out for me already. So, just to let you know it's coming up - put it in your calendars and don't miss out! Hope to see as many members there as possible, and especially the new arrivals Tout le monde est bienvenue! Location: to be confirmed (looks like being either St Kilda or Collingwood at the moment). Let us know if you're interested and we'll keep you posted when more details are worked out. _ Kate and Domi |

Hi Kate and Domi, I am afraid I am allergic to St Kilda at week-ends. If the event takes place in Collingwood, I shall happily join you. I shall also be delighted to have you both and the others over to my home for a drink beforehand, if that fits in the scheme of things. |

Jean-Marie Violette a écrit : Hi Kate and Domi, I am afraid I am allergic to St Kilda at week-ends. If the event takes place in Collingwood, I shall happily join you. Ah, merci Jean-Marie. I hadn't thought of that - St Kilda being as popular as it is, likely most restaurants would be rather full, and the idea is for all of US to make the noise, rather than having to shout over the noise of other people And St Kilda would be a bit too far out of the city for some with public transport. So, that settles it Collingwood it is! (restaurant name to come soon) jean-marie a écrit : I shall also be delighted to have you both and the others over to my home for a drink beforehand
Merci beaucoup Jean-Marie, I accept most gratefully - tu es tres gentil et it would be lovely. So the score for now is: Domi and Nath, Kate and Paul Jean-Marie and the others who've already replied. Kate |

Some more details..... Restaurant: Coconut Palms Vietnamese Restaurant Address: 183 Smith Street, Fitzroy. Telephone 9419 6429. (has a BYO alcohol licence) How to get there: Those using public transport and meeting us at the restaurant should take Tram number 86 in Bourke Street and alight at stop 17. The restaurant is just there at the tram stop. If meeting at Jean-Marie's first for drinks: use the same tram 86 but stop at the corner of Gertrude and Smith Street. Jean-Marie's house is only a few seconds away (email me for exact address). After receiving an unusual email from a new member of FDU Melbourne, it's occurred to me that maybe I should explain the purpose of the FDU dinners for other new members who might be also confused: The purpose is...there is NO purpose or structure or any formality - maybe I should have explained it a bit better and a bit more simply by: drinks + dinner + drinks + chatting = fun  It's just a chance to meet others from the forums + extra people, have some fun, make new friends, future drinking buddies or whatever you like. It's not always the same people as some are in Melbourne just for a while, and others have gone back to France already (though there are some permanents) but generally (apart from a couple of exceptions), I'd say the average age of members of the group in its several forms so far has been 23-27. Not just for Frenchies but international too is really part of the idea - bring Aussie or other partners - (my husband would surely be pleased to see more Aussies in the mixture since he doesn't speak French) but you won't be out of place if you don't have a partner to bring because plenty either don't or do but aren't able to bring them (especially if they're not in Australia). At the moment it looks like we have more new members coming this time as regulars, (score 5:3) so if you're new and you want to come - it's a good party to sign up for, so don't be shy! Kate |

Okay! Formidable Xav, Yass, Nolwen, Guillaume, you're all booked in too. I've telephoned the restaurant and made a booking for all 28 of us! (Our reservation is just called 'The French Group'.) But because it is such a big group, I had to give them my credit card details. If anybody has people they've signed up in their group as coming along who are not properly confirmed/definitely, could you please let me know for sure by no later than Vendredi lunch time, because I have to re-confirm numbers again with the restaurant on Vendredi soir and if several of the group don't turn up on the night, they're going to charge $50 penalty to my credit card Merci, and see you all samedi soir for the biggest FDU Melbourne gig ever!
