Some more details.....
Restaurant:
Coconut Palms Vietnamese Restaurant
Address: 183 Smith Street, Fitzroy. Telephone 9419 6429.
(has a BYO alcohol licence)
How to get there:
Those using public transport and meeting us at the restaurant should take Tram number 86 in Bourke Street and alight at stop 17.
The restaurant is just there at the tram stop.
If meeting at Jean-Marie's first for drinks: use the same tram 86 but stop at the corner of Gertrude and Smith Street. Jean-Marie's house is only a few seconds away (email me for exact address).
After receiving an unusual email from a new member of FDU Melbourne, it's occurred to me that maybe I should explain the purpose of the FDU dinners for other new members who might be also confused:
The purpose is...there is NO purpose or structure or any formality - maybe I should have explained it a bit better and a bit more simply by:
drinks + dinner + drinks + chatting = fun
It's just a chance to meet others from the forums + extra people, have some fun, make new friends, future drinking buddies or whatever you like.
It's not always the same people as some are in Melbourne just for a while, and others have gone back to France already (though there are some permanents) but generally (apart from a couple of exceptions), I'd say the average age of members of the group in its several forms so far has been 23-27.
Not just for Frenchies but international too is really part of the idea - bring Aussie or other partners - (my husband would surely be pleased to see more Aussies in the mixture since he doesn't speak French) but you won't be out of place if you don't have a partner to bring because plenty either don't or do but aren't able to bring them (especially if they're not in Australia).
At the moment it looks like we have more new members coming this time as regulars, (score 5:3) so if you're new and you want to come - it's a good party to sign up for, so don't be shy!
