Ok, apres le grand success de la derniere Soiree FDU a Carlton,

c'est le temps pour une autre!

Date: Samedi soir le 27 Mars

Lieu : Somewhere in the city (to be announced: suggestions welcome!)

Style: So many different nationalities foods to choose from! Suggestions on this also welcome....Asian? Middle Eastern? Indian?.....I even think there's a Swiss Rosti restaurant somewhere!
I thought of Southbank/near the casino, but I think that's out as it's so busy there on weekends you have to shout just to hear the person next to you.

So, have a think and send us your ideas and CoolFred & I will look them over. (Any enquiries you can send to me, as CoolFred is no doubt too busy working to check FDU much)

In the meantime, those interested, if you happen to be in the city and spot a potential good cafe or resto, make a note of it for us.

ie: a restaurant either small enough and quiet enough that up to 20 of us could virtually 'take it over' for the night, or a restaurant with a nice corner that we could have without having to hire a separate room to make noise in.
Price: middle of the range.

Kate :D

PS. New FDUers tres bienvenue aussi!

I doubt that any city Asian restaurant would welcome FDU members lingering on and overstaying their welcome.

If I may, I would like to suggest again a Thai restaurant on Victoria Parade Collingwood where I think the food is good and reasonably priced. It has the advantage of being BYO, and as far as I remember, there is no cork charge.

There are a couple of pubs nearby, one being the Prince Patrick Hotel where we could meet for informal drinks. Alternatively, since I live close by (within walking distance), I would enjoy welcoming you all for a glass of something sparkling in my home beforehand.

Well, Kate, this is my suggestion.

Merci for your restaurant suggestion, Jean-Marie. Yes, I guess you're right - in the city you don't often get to linger at Asian restaurants the way you can with more European style ones.

I hadn't really considered Collingwood before, but looking at my map, it's closer to the city than I thought, and Victoria Pde seems close to transport so could be easy enough.
Drinks at your place is an especially lovely suggestion.

Bienvenue JP.

Kate :D

PS: I'm also looking at enlarging this idea a bit, (if I can get enough interest for it) by adding in another event on the following day:
a visit to the great arts market at St Kilda, checking out the beach, exploring the esplanade, etc.

That could allow other Melbourne members we haven't met yet (who may have children and haven't been able to join our parties before), to come along and make it a bit of a family morning/mid afternoon as well as the singles, couples, etc.

The more the merrier!

Oh no, it's not too late! Summer's not over yet, I'm sure (even if it might look that way some days and the evenings are cooler than most years in March).

Technically, it's still quite possible to get rather warm weather in the Melbourne region till mid April (but if we're unlucky it will probably be quite variable....hence by 'checking out' I probably mean watching the waves from a distance

Most years, March is quite a warm month and much more reliable than February, which is why I love it better than any other time of year (apart from the colours too, of course)

Kate

PS: If anybody is looking for a pretty place to see the best autumn colours in Victoria, I'd recommend Bright (near Mt Buffalo in the high country). I also think Melbourne's Yarra Valley is going to be very pretty this season.

Less than 2 weeks now till the next FDU Melbourne dinner...just a reminder for those thinking of signing up.

Those interested so far:

Jean-Marie
Kate
JP & Celine
Pech
+ Coolfred & his group of 5 or so

Everybody welcome!

('checking out the beach' option is certainly looking better now, if the weather decides to stay great like today!)

Kate

Ok, n'oubliez pas: only 1 week to go till the FDU Melbourne Soiree at

ING DOI THAI RESTAURANT 73 Victoria Parade Collingwood

Current list:

Kate
JP & Celine
Jean Marie
Pech

If the others who may still be thinking whether they're free or not could put their names down by Mercredi, that would be great, and I'll confirm final numbers with the restaurant on Jeudi.

And don't forget too, if you can't make it on the Samedi soir, you can still join the little gathering at St Kilda esplanade Dimanche matin 28th.

Merci & see you soon!

Kate :D

hello,

It's JP and Celine, This week-end there is the French film festival, and we certainly go to it. So we are afraid to not come with you to the restaurant, maybe an other time.
Sorry again, hope we will see you next time.

Regards.

Oh, that's a pity JP.

With only 3 people left now, we're doing a bit of a re-think ourselves (but the show must go on!)

Stay tuned, we may post something else very shortly...possibly an amended program... or ..maybe we could try to get a little group together Dimanche matin at St Kilda for coffee or Brunch....
Any of those who can't make it on Samedi soir interested in this one???

Kate

As a side note, if all those interested in being on the invitation list for FDU dinners & such, (if you haven't done it already), svp sign up under the "Groups" icon which is located at the top of the screen next to the "Mon Profil" button - that will make you very easy to find for next time.

Merci!

Ok, we have another joining us now for the samedi soiree, LauLau.

Meeting at 6.45 pm for pre dinner drinks at Jean-Marie's place n Derby St Collingwood, then we're just going to wander and find a restaurant we like, rather than pre book.

That means, if somebody has forgotten to reply, c'est past trop tard!
Just reply by Friday evening if you'd like to join us.....

If anybody wants to meet a St Kilda pour un cafe sur le Dimanche matin, LauLau et moi, nous serons la, au moins. :D
