Salut tlm

Voici un message de "Coolfred" pour vous:

This email is to let you know about an idea that Kate and I have got to gather as many Frenchies as possible.

Idea: FDU rendez vous in a restaurant (like the one organized last year in October - was great, wasn't it ??)

Location: - in a restaurant not too far from the city centre, capable to feed between 15 and 20 people and where we can book in advance....
free option regarding the place and taste of cuisine (french, italian, asian...)
It's actually fully open to your suggestions and every of you is really welcome to share his/her best known place to eat.

Date and time: Saturday, 31st January, time will be tuned up later

Now, there are a couple of things to keep in mind:
- from today and till Tuesday, 27th Jan, I'm away from my computer, desk and everything more or less related to any kind of internet/email access, so Kate will lead the Rendez Vous organization

Well, that's it I guess but any feedback from all of you is more than welcome !!!

Cheers,
Fred

Ok, anyone like to suggest a good restaurant which fits the above?

Kate :D

No worries, nous allons a Melbourne demain soir pour voir la concert de Kitto, so we'll check out some restaurants close by in Carlton while we're there.

May I suggest Amaretto Trattoria Bistro, 209 Victoria Parade, Fitzroy (corner of Smith Street), 9417 5169? I haven't been there for yonks but I reckon it should still be a fine place. Alternatively, there is an excellent Thai restaurant further down the road. Hopefully, I shall be free to join the party.

Merci Jean-Marie, I hope you'll be able to make it to the dinner too.

I've just tried out a restaurant which could be good (rather delicious), but in a different direction, as the last FDU dinner we had was also in Fitzroy, close to Smith St.

I found a great little Italian place in Carlton, called Caffee Trilussa (323 Lygon St) very close to transport & everything.

It's got a charming little room out the back with walls which remind me a lot of Pompeii, which will hold 15 people (or squash 20 if we had to) and they've said no worries we could take over that room.

Meal ranges from many inexpensive Italian pastas to some burgers, chicken, aussie fish & chips, a bit of Turkish, & other stuff....et tout les gateaux (formidable! :-) :-)).

Anyway, that's just another choice. See what you all think and by Wednesday Fred & I will discuss them and we can vote on which one we like...

Hi everyone,

Glad we have already some people ready to meet up on Sat.
On my side:
- 100% sure are 3 friends, 2 pure Frenchies and one very nice Maurius guy.
- 50% sure are 2 other friends but I sort this out ASAP
So, coming along with me, we could be up to 6 (including me) and the Italian restaurant sounds perfect to me

Let you know ASAP regarding the still virtual friends but on the other hand, I'm still waiting for news from the other Frenchies living around....

Great Pech.
Good idea about the 'apero'. We could have one for those who'd like to arrive a bit earlier than the dinner.
There's the Astor pub which is easy to find, as it's right on the corner of Elgin & Lygon Sts, on the other side of the road from the Trilussa but only a few doors away. From the outside it looks like it might be a normal Aussie pub (not too trendy & thus drinks not too expensive).

Or further down the block from Trilussa there's the University Bar (but the name is deceptive and if its menu is anything to judge by, it could be fairly expensive and it doesn't look like a real pub but more a trendy spot).

What time are we thinking of meeting for dinner?
7 pm, or 7.30?
What do you others think?

Hi everyone,

I reckon that 7:30pm at the restaurant is a good time, as this way, if some people want to have an "apero", they can enjoy it before without stressing too much about the RDV at the restaurant.

Now, if 7:30pm is fine, Kate can you put down the exact postal address of both the restaurant and pub ....
Then we can count how many people are joining .... number I'll give you on Thursday last chance.

Cheers,
Fred

Bon, Jean-Marie. Glad you can make it too.

Ok, the score so far....

CoolFred + approx 5,
Celine-IBT + 1
Kate + 1
Julauger + 1
Pech
Jean-Marie

= 14.

If anybody has any additional people who they're bringing, could you let me know by vendredi apres midi, as I'll be calling the restaurant with final numbers early that evening.
Merci!

Ok Fred, I can do one better than an exact address of the restaurant
Here's a pic I took last week....

Image

The exact address of the restaurant: 323 Lygon St Carlton (if coming from the city, turn right at the tram stop on the corner of Elgin & Lygon Sts and go down a few doors, and there you are.)
Reservation booked under the name of "Francedownunder" :-)
The Astor pub: right on the corner of Elgin & Lygon Sts, opposite the tram stop and on the opposite side of the street to the Restaurant.
I'll be at the pub around 7 or 7.15 for those meeting there.

See U soon!
Kate :D

Bon, ça m'a l'air bien parti... :P

Merci Toche, I don't quite understand what 'bien parti' means and a couple of other words, but I can guess it ok, je crois.
Several of us have met each other already at the last FDU Melbourne diner, but most will be fairly new members.
Merci, I'm sure it will be lots of fun, et j'ai toujours mon camera digital avec moi pour les soirees comme ca.

Tochy Boy means there is a good start. I think so too. Not too late to join in Toche, jump on a plane or on a bus! Stay at my place, no problem.
